?Southern Hills Animal Hospital was started in 1994 by Dr. Preston and Mary Thornton.

Both doctors received their Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Preston also has a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science with a minor in Biology and Chemistry from Virginia Tech.
Dr. Mary also has a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry and Nutrition and a minor in Bilogy from Virginina Tech.
The Thorntons live in Wirtz with their four children: Alex, Victoria, Anna and Daniel. They have 3 dogs Max, Stevie and Caesar; and 2 cats Mattie Mae and Mazie.
